21 Norton
This is the inaugural vintage of our Estate Norton, and what a color! This richly pigmented wine opens with a deep aroma of black plum, gentle smoke, and violet. The palate is juicy and bright exhibiting jammy brambleberry notes alongside spice, toasted wood and soft tannin. Our Norton block runs across the bottom of the hill at the south end of the vineyard. Norton is notable in Virginia as a hybrid grape originally developed in Richmond with both Vitis vinifera and Vitis aestivalis ancestry.
95% Norton, 5% Petit Verdot. Barrel-aged 17 months in 50% new American oak.
For our bottlings in 2023 and later, we have decided to forgo foil capsules on cork-closure wines to help reduce our carbon footprint.
